Ali Harris is the LGBT Program Coordinator at Health Care for All New York, where he conducts New York State and national policy analysis related to sexuality, sexual and reproductive health. Harris recently organized a series of listening sessions to expose non-compliance with the circular letter issued by the NYS Department of Financial Services, requiring all private health insurers to provide comprehensive transgender health care services. He is also working with the New York State of Health Marketplace to collect data on sexual orientation and gender identity, in addition to co-authoring comments on the proposed regulation on the non-discrimination clause of the Affordable Care Act. Ali is a recent graduate of the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University where he focused in transgender healthcare issues and addressing the present gaps in transgender health research. Harris has been a panelist and guest speaker for undergraduate, graduate level and professional development LGBTQ programming, where he has been asked to discuss topics regarding gender, sexuality and discrimination within United States based health care.
